Speaker 1:I just got back a couple of days ago from my retreat down in Tulum, which was amazing 11 beautiful souls went and partook in a plant medicine ayahuasca ceremony, and I mean there were some parts of the participants, some wounds that had been healed and touched, that had not been dealt with. So I know I've said this before, but the power of the medicine is transformative and I stayed after two days by myself and had to sit with Mother Aya and I came to the realization in this episode I want to talk to you about, I see a lot of people get hung up on this journey of self-development, this journey of personal development and personal growth. It's because of this thing that we call integration. We struggle with integration because we don't know how to integrate, and the reason why we don't know how to integrate is because it's happening on a psychological level, but then we never integrate it into our physical body, into our nervous system, and that's what I want to talk to you all about. I don't want to get started, but we're going to get started. You got to understand that you're going to have to take what you understand psychologically, but you have to infuse it into your recording system that is operating through your body.
Speaker 1:So, if we think about the subconscious mind, the subconscious mind and the nervous system are not the same thing, but they operate off the same panel, right? So think of it like this whatever your subconscious mind was recording when you were a kid, growing up traumatic experiences it then gets infused into your central nervous system. Your central nervous system then essentially plays it out. So when we think about this, our central nervous system is responsible for our fight or flight mode. Right, we always hear this, right, when something scary happens, we either run or we fight back.
Speaker 1:But here's what we don't understand. You ready? This part of our brain that switches on to the central nervous system is the same part of our brain that eventually, at one point in our evolution, was running away from animals that could eat us, so it was developed to keep us alive. It was developed for survival mechanism when we literally our lives were in danger because of things chasing us that could kill us. But here's what ends up happening Nobody I don't know if you listen to this right now. You probably don't. You don't live in a place where you have to worry about a bear or a tiger or a saber-toothed tiger or something, coming out and eating you when you walked out of the cave. Correct, okay, correct.
Speaker 1:But here's the issue that part of our brain has not evolved. So now, when you experience a traumatic event and then something 10, 15, 20 years later reminds you of that traumatic event, that part of your brain that is basically computing through the central nervous system is triggered. And this is why we start to get tight, our hands start to sweat, we get nervous, our heart rate increases. You see that, you see what I just said we get nervous, your central nervous system is activated. So here's what I realized.
Speaker 1:I realized in my ceremony if I don't take what I psychologically understand and then infuse that energetically into my nervous system, I'm going to go back to the old way of mind. Y'all stay with me, because you ain't trying to hear nothing I'm saying right now. This is why the healing journey, why so many of us? I heard somebody say the other day they do plant medicine once a month, and I'm like once a month, I don't know, to each his own, but there's a level of integration that takes months. It takes weeks because we have to literally reprogram our central nervous system. So I'm going to give you an example of this. I get back and have this, all the psychological understanding. I understand it on a psychological level, but I don't understand it on a central nervous system level, meaning I haven't taken this information. I haven't taken this new way of thinking, this new way of perceiving. I haven't taken these new beliefs and infused them into my physical body so that my nervous system and the cells and the structural integrity of every cell in my body is now embodying it. I haven't had a chance to do that.
Speaker 1:So I started to notice that when I was in this ceremony anybody who's been a part of ceremony, you know that you purge right, you're going to vomit, you may have diarrhea, you're going to sweat I kept yawning and yawning, and yawning. I'm nauseous than a mother, but I'm yawning and I keep yawning, and I'm not lying to you. In a span of probably like three or four hours, probably yawned 200 times and I'm like man, what the is going on. So I was sitting there talking to my shaman after he was, like you, yawn because your central nervous system is exhausted. It's tired because it's releasing these old things, because you are literally rewiring and creating new neural networks in the matter of these hours, in this ceremony, in your physical body is now exhausted because it's trying to catch up to what the mind is saying.
Speaker 1:When you start understanding that your central nervous system has been recording from day one. It has been a log keeper, it has been an accountant, it has been a bookkeeper on all of the traumatic experiences, the thoughts, the way you perceive things, the beliefs. It's been a bookkeeper on all of the traumatic experiences, the thoughts, the way you perceive things, the beliefs. It's been sitting here recording. And now here I am in the ceremony and I'm releasing all of this. I'm seeing the people pleasing, I'm seeing how much I'm playing small, I'm seeing how I doubt myself and my mind is saying, no, we're rewiring this. The medicine is showing me how to rewire this. My nervous system's like yo, what the Hold on, hold on. We got to catch up. So this is why so often we've been doing the work.
Speaker 1:I've been journaling, I've been meditating, I go to these classes, I go on retreats, I'm part of the community. I do all this but yet my life still hasn't changed. The life hasn't changed because you haven't integrated. I'm going to teach you how to do this. When you start understanding really what integration is and how it works, now you'll start to see like, really, I got to figure out a way to take the insight from the mind and bring it down into the body.
Speaker 1:Let me say this again for the people in the back who didn't hear me you got to take the insight of the mind, you got to take the perception and the wisdom of the mind and infuse it down into the body, into the nervous system. So it's not about knowing what you know. That's not it, because this is what happens. Oh, I read this book and I listened to this podcast. That don't mean shit. It does not mean anything. It doesn't matter what you know. It's about you becoming what you know. Good God, almighty, y'all ain't trying to hear nothing I'm saying.
Speaker 1:So I started to realize you can have a profound realization in the ceremony a book, a meditation but if your nervous system ain't caught up, all you're going to do is go back to the old program, because that's all it was. It was nothing more than this automatic program that kept running over and over and over. So on this healing journey, you're not just changing your thoughts, you're not just changing your beliefs, you are literally rewiring your survival system the autonomic sorry, autonomic, did I say that? Yeah autonomic nervous system that's governing your responses to safety, to trauma, to threats, to connection, to expression, to abundance, to scarcity, to stillness, to grind, to hustle. You don't realize this part of you is running on a program. It's trying to use the least amount of energy as possible. So I started to realize dang, look how you feel when you say this. Look how you feel when you post this. Look how you feel when you post this. Look how you feel when you have this comment or this comes in and I'm able to see. Now, I'm able to witness. Wow, how do I feel right now? I feel scared, I feel afraid. What are people going to think? That is the program. That is the program so you can have an awakening, you can have a ceremony, you can have a deep healing, but you have to understand that your nervous system is still going to operate from the old program until it is shown over and over that it's safe. Now it can live differently. So during my ceremony I was shown how much.
Speaker 1:What do you call it spanking? I don't know what you would call it spanking getting beat with a belt. I can see how much fear this created and here's what this looked like. This is for anybody who still uses a physical punishment for the children. I got to speak to you here on this because I'm coming from the place straight from the horse's mouth. If you've got to put your hands on your kids, go ahead and stop putting your hands on your kids, because here's why, eventually, those kids are going to be adults. Right, these kids are going to be adults, and here's what's going to end up happening. You don't realize and I didn't realize, and most African-American cultures don't realize and I'm going to say African-Americans because you know white people do the same thing too and Asian and you know Spanish. It's going to have on their central nervous system because there's a program that's happening Whenever a child does something and the punishment is through something physical.
Speaker 1:What is that going to do? Number one it's not going to physically feel safe, but then two, emotionally, it's not going to feel safe. So the moment that this child, who's now an adult, feels any type of threat and that threat could be the not getting the approval of somebody who it cares for. It could be their partner, it could be their children, it could be a boss, it could be a coach, it could be. It doesn't matter who it is.
Speaker 1:At any point, if you feel as though someone does not accept you, somebody does not validate you, your central nervous system will process this as I am not safe. And now here's what ends up happening you become a shell of yourself, you start to play small, you contract, you constrict because you are operating from a lower energy. Remember, survival will always be a lower energy than thrival. Scarcity will always be a lower energy than abundance. Fear will always be a lower energy than faith. So anytime these lower energies happen, there's a constriction. And now here we are. You know how it is when you get nervous and you're scared. This is your central nervous system constricting, contracting. And now here you are. You are terrified to take that step. This is why we get paralyzed by fear. It is literally your mother nervous system saying we cannot move because we are not safe. And you will be shocked at how it shows up in your life For all my athletes out there, because I know I got some athletes that listen to this.
Speaker 1:You won't shoot that shot. You know why you won't shoot that shot Because you missed the one before and when you missed the one before, your coach looked at you. And now you feel as though you're not getting accepted. You feel like you're not getting validated. So now here's what happens. You don't realize. The central nervous system kicks in and now it's playing the program from all of the times before when you did not feel safe, you did not feel protected, you did not feel accepted, you did not feel validated, you did not feel seen, you did not feel supported. And now here it is, running off the program.
Speaker 1:Y'all ain't trying to hear nothing. I'm saying right now you might as well go ahead and get off, turn the podcast off, because you ain't trying to hear nothing I'm saying. So you don't realize that you are operating off of a program. You ain't really scared to shoot that shot present day. You scared to shoot the shot in the past. But you really ain't scared to shoot the shot in the past, you scared of what could happen if I am not accepted. And here's how we have to the ego when it is not accepted from outside validation, it processes that as death, because it needed something on the outside to be its main source of energy, because it did not know how to produce it on the inside. Are you trying to hear what I'm saying right now? Do you not see what I am telling you? So when you start to realize that most of your life, most of your life, your central nervous system is on overload, so I get back, right, I get back from the retreat, I'm back home, I'm at the airport. Actually, I'm at the airport and I stop in Atlanta. Anybody been to Atlanta and the airport around 7, 8 o'clock at night? It will put your central nervous system on 10.
Speaker 1:And I'm sitting here walking through the airport and I get down, I get, I sit in my plane, sit in my sit in my flight and the lady next to me. She starts telling jokes because she wants a drink. Now, I don't drink. The only thing I drink is water. If I can't see through it, I ain't gonna do it. The only thing I drink is water. So she starts joking like man. I hope, I hope there's not too much turbulence, because I want them to serve drinks. I need a drink and I'm sitting here laughing like ha ha, ha, hee, hee, hee, ha ha ha. And I caught myself. I said why are you laughing? It's not funny to you. Why are you laughing? You're people pleasing. You're people pleasing.
Speaker 1:Now, this is going to be triggering for some of us. Right now we're people pleasing. You know why you're people pleasing? Because really you just want their acceptance. Good God, almighty, you ain't trying to hear nothing.
Speaker 1:I'm saying she over here making these jokes, talking about drinking, and now you're laughing to make her feel good. Why are you laughing? To make her feel good, so that way she will accept you. And why do you need her to accept you? Because of the fear that if she does not accept me, I'm not safe. Because at one point, when you was getting spanked, when you was getting beaten with that belt, when you was getting beaten with that switch, you didn't feel safe, you didn't feel accepted. So now here's what ends up happening. We don't realize that this is a program that manifests itself in so many different ways. So it seems like oh well, no, I'm just laughing at you know she's making a joke about drinking, but you don't realize you are operating from an unconscious program, from a central nervous system wound. So I caught myself in that moment Like if it's not funny, you don't have to laugh. You don't, because here's the deal If you don't laugh, she may feel not accepted and guess what that's going to trigger her nervous system. And every time that we get triggered it is an opportunity for us to heal. It is an opportunity for us to bring awareness to what we were unaware of and we already know.
Speaker 1:You can't fix something that you were unaware of. Call a plumber to your house and tell a plumber to come fix the sink. What does the plumber do? It looks for the first place that there is a leak. If there's no leak, how's the plumber going to fix something? And they ask you what the symptoms are. Or you go to the doctor. What are they doing? They're trying to bring awareness to what they're unaware of. But if we do not have awareness from moment to moment of how this shows up, the central nervous system is going to run on autopilot and you will never know, because your central nervous system has been with you your whole entire life.
Speaker 1:So why I say that these are the three phases of integrations. Phase number one you're going to have to have awareness. This is where the insight moment is right. This isn't the only phase, but this is probably arguably the most important. When you realize your behavior and why you are doing it, say this with me what's the reason behind why I'm doing it? What's the reason behind me laughing at something that's not even funny? I'm laughing at something that's not funny to me. I'm chuckling and giggling at something that's not even actually funny. Why are you doing this? And you will know. You will know how many times has this happened. You do something that you really didn't want to do.
Speaker 1:I had a talk with my 12-year-old. We were talking about people pleasing and what was coming up with him and his kid at school and all this stuff, and he said, yeah, the kid asked me to go to. He asked me to go to um to play football, but I didn't want to play football, but I went anyway. I said do you see how this works? Do you see how this works? Now? You people pleasing, you operate from an autonomous program right now in fear of that, if I don't please this person, I'm not safe.
Speaker 1:Now here's why I'm saying this. That's not what this is, but we got to understand that we literally have a gene to please others. We have a gene in us, we have this ancestral. This is encoded into our DNA. Because if we do not please somebody else, that pleasing of them was our source of validation. Because along this journey of awareness, this journey of awakening, this journey of becoming, we had not maybe learned how to supply that energy of self-acceptance within our own life. So we depended on them, and this happens unconsciously. So this is why it was so important for you to become aware, to become aware. But this was just the first layer.
Speaker 1:Part two you will have the test, you will have the challenge. We also call this contraction. This is where everything contracts. This is where the old patterns resurface. This is what we will refer to as the echo. So when I told you that I was running off an automatic program, that means it's an echo of something that had happened in the past, y'all go ahead and say it right now. All I'm hearing right now is the echoes. So when you start to find yourself afraid to take the step, you're afraid to put yourself out there, you're afraid of what people will say that is the echo of something that came from the past. You'll feel fear. I see this all the time around money again. You'll want to post something, but then you're going to feel sudden resistance. It may be time for you to sell something, but now you're worried about what people are going to say.
Speaker 1:This is where our nervous system is basically saying wait, are we sure that we're safe? Are we sure that we're okay? You see, this is when we have to breathe. Okay, you see, this is when we have to breathe. This is when we have to breathe into our central nervous system. Notice what happens when you're under stress. Notice what happens when you're nervous. What do we always do? You take a sigh of relief. Why, why? Why do we take a sigh of relief? Because it's another way of purging out this lower energy that has been in our system, that is creating strain, and we're releasing it. So this is where you need to take a deep breath, breathe into it, release it. You're going to feel a cathartic release when you release it.
Speaker 1:This is when you need to affirm yourself I'm safe, your central nervous system is still operating off some caveman bullshit. You need to affirm and say I'm safe, your central nervous system is still operating on some caveman bullshit. You need to affirm and say I'm safe, we're good. I know you're scared to take that next shot. I know you are. I know you're scared to take the last shot. That's going to win the game. I know you're scared to get that business to the next level or take that next step or maybe a complete pivot. I get it. But this is when we have to become aware of what the central nervous system is saying and we take those deep breaths, we close those eyes and we tell it what we know. We needed it to hear You're safe. Because you have to understand really what the body's doing. The body's only paralyzing you, the body's only sweating, the body's only stopping, the body's only constricting and contracting because it's testing to see, to make sure that we're safe.
Speaker 1:I started to notice when things get, when I'm doing something and I'm scared or like I feel this fear I'll stop breathing, I ain't going to breathe, I will literally hold my breath. And Carly pointed out she goes, you and Hudson do the same thing. You guys always hold your breath. And I started to realize this is my central nervous system. This is crazy, wow.
Speaker 1:So part three. Now that we know this, we have this understanding, we need to recalibrate, we need to repattern it. This is what integration is. You recognize the echo, you recognize the old program. You take time, you take a pause and then you respond with a new truth. Instead of the old trauma, instead of the old story, you tell yourself something new. So instead of I'm unsafe sorry it's, I feel unsafe, but I know I'm safe now. Sorry it's, I feel unsafe, but I know I'm safe now. This feels familiar, but I don't have to go back into this old way of life. So when you do this over and over and over again, you're going to start to notice that your nervous system is going to adapt. It's going to start to regulate from truth instead of trauma.
Speaker 1:Y'all hear me when I say this. You're not going to start living out of the lies. You're going to live from your conviction. You don't have to go off of past programs and things that were passed down unconsciously from your ancestors, your elders, your parents. You don't have to move from that anymore. You have the understanding. And this is the moment when healing becomes who you are. This is the moment when you start to embody who you are instead of what you do or what has happened from the past, and this is when your past stops defining your future. Y'all ain't trying to hear nothing I'm saying right now. So this is why it's so important for us to slow down.
Speaker 1:I realized when I came back from my ceremony how much I'm in a hurry. I'm in a hurry and I'm in a hurry. And because I'm in a hurry, my nervous system literally is like and it never takes time to integrate. So, number one, please slow your butt down. Please slow your butt down. Hear me when I say this Ain't nothing going to stop just because you slow down. See, I was growing up with the program. I was raised with the program. If you're on time, you're late. If you are on time, you are late. So I'm in a hurry. I got to get there, I got to do this, I got to do that, I got to do this. I'll literally create a mental itinerary inside of my mind. I said wait, hold on now, hold on now. All you're doing is speeding yourself up. Why don't you slow down so this nervous system can integrate all this understanding that you have mentally? Why don't you let your body feel safe in doing nothing for once? Why don't you do that? And then the next thing we got to do is we got to regulate it daily, because this will work. It's a job, breath, work, all right, breathing in to this new way of being.
Speaker 1:The next part of this, you're going to have to track your echoes, meaning you will have to name your patterns without judgment, observe them from a place of neutrality. Oh, there's my old fear coming up. Oh, wow, look at you. You're so afraid to post this and you're wondering what people are going to say, because you're worried if they're going to accept you. But you don't need their acceptance, you're safe. Oh, wow, there's my urge to people. Please, again, wow, look at this and see what's going to end up happening. Because you have this new awareness, you're going to start to dissolve this shame. You're going to start to dissolve this guilt. You're going to start to dissolve these parts of you that lived outside of you. And now you're going to build it with trust, trust for yourself. And now you will be able to identify in the moment my central nervous system is triggering, it's letting me know, it's literally waving the flag, saying there's something off here.
Speaker 1:There's a mental program, there's a subconscious belief that we need to clean up. See. What we have to understand, too is repetition will be key. See, repetition equals safety to the central nervous system. So, even if your mind knows you're safe, the body needs to feel safe, and the only way to feel safe is to consistently remind it. Y'all ain't trying to hear nothing when I'm saying this is why I told you in season two consistency was the key to success. Consistency is the key to success. Success means I move forward. If I want to move forward, I'm going to have to be consistent in regulating and having the awareness of the things that kept me from moving forward. So I'm going to leave you with this Integration is a lifestyle. It's a lifestyle. You ain't just healing and doing all this just so you can feel better. You're healing literally to create new programs, a new way of being, to become more free.
Speaker 1:People say, man, you look like you're so light. I am. I am lighter, I am literally. My central nervous system isn't squeezing itself, no more. It's not over here, constricted and contracted because it's living in fear, worrying about what are people going to think? Oh no, what if I don't please them? What if they think it's this, that, who cares? What do you think, what do you think? And then catching that and then reminding myself you're safe, bro, you're safe, you're good, no matter, it doesn't matter what anybody thinks, it doesn't matter who they are, it does not matter, you're still safe. You are still safe.
Speaker 1:There's a part of my soul, my ancestors, my ancestors. I saw it in a ceremony. I went all the way back to Africa. This goes back so far, so far in humanity. You have no idea If you've gone through any type of trauma or anybody in your lineage has gone through any type of trauma that will get passed down. I don't care who you are. I do not care who you are. You can be white, black, asian. All of us have encountered something ancestrally that got passed down.
Speaker 1:So my point of this is you ain't just integrating this new awareness and this new awakening into your life. You are actually creating a ripple in space and time, both to the past and to the future. Because if you change your central nervous system, guess what? You're going to teach your children how to do the same thing and every moment that you witness yourself and respond differently, you're going to rewire your nervous system. You're going to rewire the autopilot button. You're going to rewire the subconscious mind to match your true divinity. And this, my friends, is what it meant when we said let's bring heaven to earth, as in heaven, as on earth, as in heaven. This is what it was.
Speaker 1:So I just had to get on here for a little bit. I'm still in it. I mean, I'm only seven days out. I'm still. I was on. I went to my daughter's. I know, I told you, all I drink is water. I don't drink coffee. Occasionally I go to Tulum, I have some ginger tea, but I don't drink really anything else and I go to my daughter.
Speaker 1:I went to my daughter's talent show today. At school we had the talent show and one of the other moms is sitting next to me and I'm yawning like a mother. I'm over here watching these other kids up here and I'm just thinking to myself look at them. Look how brave they are. They're not worried about what nobody thinks. These kids are getting up here singing. These kids are getting up here dancing. These kids are up here doing these things. They ain't worried about what nobody's thinking about them. I said you couldn't pay an adult to get up there. And then I started to think about me getting up there and there was a little bit of me that started to feel a little bit of fear. There's a little bit of contraction. See, the old program, the nervous system, the echo, started to come. We ain't got to worry about somebody else's things.
Speaker 1:And as I'm sitting here thinking this and I'm trying to reprogram myself, I start to yawn and the mom next to me says we need to get you some coffee. And what I really wanted to say? No, you don't need to get me no coffee. I need a quiet space, a meditation chair and some soft music. Because I'm literally in the moment, right now, integrating, and my central nervous system is overloaded right now because I'm releasing I am releasing in real time a traumatic event. When I went in first grade, I was the first one in school. Nobody knew who I was and they were all looking at me, staring at me, and it created this wound of not feeling safe and not wanting to put myself out there. I'm watching these kids, I'm watching my life, I am literally seeing my life through these children and I am reprogramming my nervous system as we speak. So I don't need any coffee. That isn't why I'm yawning, lady. I'm yawning because I'm in the process of integrating. So here's my point Integration is a full-time job. It is a full-time job. You will never be done. You will never be done. Hear me when I say this. You will never be done. You can read every cotton picking book in this universe. You can go on every plant medicine retreat that you want. You can go ahead and go on every retreat and listen to every lecture and every podcast, but it don't mean nothing if you cannot embody it. And that's why they call it. Body meant in. Body meant embodiment. Body meant body meant you hear the word meant, we know. Meant means mind, mental, body. I'm taking what is in my mind and putting it into my body. And when I put it into my body guess what I've just done? My cellular structure, my DNA, the recording device that has the whole universe encoded into it, starts to reprogram itself and I'm literally creating a new human. And then here's what ends up happening this will get passed down. You will teach your children and then your children's cellular structure will change and they will pass this down. And this is how we create literally new human beings. It's through awareness and integration. I'm all about it. I'm all on it. Right now. I'm just trying to take everything that I know now and put it into this body right and live it and feel it when it comes up, not being afraid and worrying about what people think.
