The Pathway To Your Results

The More You Heal, The Less You Want

Derick Grant Season 5 Episode 194

Explore how healing changes your relationship with ambition and drive, revealing that apparent loss of motivation actually signals a profound transformation in your fuel source.

• Feeling guilty while resting can signal a wound from conditioning that equates worth with productivity
• Traditional ambition often stems from lack, driving us to achieve to feel "enough"
• Healing shifts motivation from external validation to internal alignment
• Success becomes redefined as peace and alignment rather than external achievements
• The paradox: when you release attachment to outcomes, they flow more naturally
• Learning to balance work ethic with "rest ethic" creates sustainable success
• Moving from finite motivation (fear-based) to infinite inspiration (truth-based)
• Recognizing you don't need to accomplish anything to be enough
• Reclaiming your power by no longer outsourcing your self-worth
• True wealth comes from self-worth, not external accumulation

Continue your healing journey knowing that your changing relationship with ambition shows you're moving in the right direction. You're not losing drive—you're reclaiming it.

Speaker 1:

Once you see what you actually are, that you're an infinite, limitless being, you'll see that nothing exists outside of you. I'm your host, derek Grant, and this is the Pathway to your Results Podcast. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Pathway to your Results podcast. It is your boy, dg. This is presented by DG Mindset. Welcome. We're going to do a podcast right now, an episode on this thing that we call Drive Ambition.

Speaker 1:

This is for all my people who have been on their journey, the people who have been on their healing journey and their self-development journey. They've been peeling back the layers and figuring out who they are, and some of you may be business professionals, some of you may be entrepreneurs, it doesn't matter. Some of you may be. It doesn't matter what your occupation is, but you may start to find a trend or find something that's happening that you probably didn't see coming. This is something that I did not see coming in my life. I started to question. I was talking to my coach, I was talking to her about it and I would say well, I feel guilty sometimes when I'm not doing something. I feel guilty sometimes when I'm not doing something. She said, oh, tell me more. I said I feel guilty when I have days sometimes where it's like I've done everything that I'm supposed to quote unquote work-wise, and then, like I feel guilty, maybe sitting around and reading a book, I feel guilty, like doing nothing, or maybe like just walking around. I feel guilty and I'm like, why, why, why do I feel guilty for this? Why do I feel? And I started to see it was a wound right Growing up. It's like you can't sit around, don't sit around. You got to be doing something, you need to be doing something. But here's what ends up happening that's actually out of a wound, that's actually coming out of lack, and I didn't realize I was coming out of lack. I transmuted it and used it and we glorified it and we call it drive ambition. But if you've noticed, on this journey of healing, of you figuring out who you are, you've become less ambitious. There's a reason why and I'm here to give you comfort and let you know that this is quote unquote normal.

Speaker 1:

I remember when I first started on this journey, I had all these goals Like I'm going to do this, I'm going to work with this person, I'm going to be on this show, I'm going to work, I'm going to do all that. I'm going to do it and over the last year it's slowly evolved into eh, if it happens, cool, if it doesn't, no big deal. And it's not that you're less ambitious. It's not that you're less ambitious, it's not that you're losing drive, it's the fuel source has changed. You're not looking to achieve and accomplish and accumulate so you can be enough. Do you see how this works?

Speaker 1:

So you wanted to accomplish X, y and Z. Because the reason why? Because you had unconsciously, subconsciously, programmed yourself to believe that if you accomplish this, then everybody will think you are the best and then you will have permission for you to think or believe that you were enough. So I started to realize that, as I healed, I started to see that I was enough and I didn't need to do or accomplish things in order to be enough. So now the motivation behind accomplishing those things had dissolved. It was gone. The fuel source had changed. So instead of me using gasoline, which eventually will run out, I started to use this free energy. You know that real stuff that Nikola Tesla had tapped into, that those at the top don't want you to know exist. I had found the well that never ran dry. I didn't need to accomplish something because I started to realize who I was outside of achievement.

Speaker 1:

So ask yourself this who am I without this striving for quote unquote greatness? Who am I outside of what I achieve? Who am I outside of my bank account? Get rid of all of that stuff. And now you start to see what has changed. It's not that you're less ambitious. You stop outsourcing your self-worth. You ain't trying to hear nothing that I'm saying right now. I know you're not. You ain't trying to hear nothing. You don't even realize.

Speaker 1:

So it looks like on the outside I ain't got any ambition. It's not that I don't have any ambition, that's not it. It's not that I'm lazy, it's not that I don't have drive. It's not that I have to feel guilty for not wanting to do something right now. It's that I no longer outsource my self-worth. I'm no longer seeking validation through the next achievement. I'm no longer seeking validation through the next achievement. I'm no longer seeking validation through the next goal. I'm no longer looking for their round of applause or their certain amount of followers or their certain amount of likes for me to say that I'm enough.

Speaker 1:

And here's what ends up happening when you do this. When you realize this, you start to achieve this thing that we call freedom. You start to achieve this thing that we call freedom and see, when you achieve this new way of being, here's what ends up happening. You start to redefine what success is in your life. Good God almighty, y'all ain't trying to hear nothing that I'm saying no more. It's not that you lost your ambition, it's not that you lost your drive. You've changed what's moving you forward. So now I don't need to have a certain amount to be successful. I don't need to have X, y and Z to be good enough. Now success is defined as peace. Success is defined as alignment. Good God almighty, y'all ain't trying to hear nothing.

Speaker 1:

Success is based on how I feel from moment to moment, not just on how it looks. Good, god, almighty. So this is a paradigm shift, because this matrix, this three-dimensional world that we live in, we have been conditioned and programmed in an amazing fashion, in an amazing fashion, to make us think that success was somehow going to be defined by what someone else saw. Success is not defined by what somebody else sees. Success is defined by how you feel, and how you feel is not contingent on what people see. So when you realize this, the dreams change, the goals change. You stop wanting to change the world. You stop wanting to help and be this public figure. You just want to change yourself. You just want to see yourself. You don't need to be seen by the world anymore to see yourself. You don't need to be seen by the world anymore.

Speaker 1:

So it's not that you've changed and you've lost ambition. You've just reclaimed it. See, you've taken it out of the hands of the world. Good God, almighty. See, what you didn't realize is a lot of your ambition. The world was holding on to A lot of your drive. The world was holding on to A lot of your motivation. The world was holding on to A lot of your motivation. The world was holding on to A lot of the things that you are striving for and looking to accomplish and looking to create in this physical reality. The world was dictating that.

Speaker 1:

See, when you start to go on this journey and figure out who you are, you stop feeling the need to constantly strive and achieve and prove and show and think, oh, I got to show the world. I got to show the world. You ain't got to show the world nothing. You ain't got to show the world. You ain't got to do nothing with the world, because I found everything that I was looking for, and it was only on the inside. And now that I found it, I don't really have a desire to show everybody and prove to everybody, have a desire to show everybody and prove to everybody.

Speaker 1:

And this is where the paradox takes place. What's the old saying, the old proverb? It says the man who knows something won't say anything, and the man who says something knows nothing. The knowing was of yourself. When you know yourself, you won't need any more to prove to the world like, yeah, I did it.

Speaker 1:

I started to realize. I started to realize in my, especially in my business, it's like let's do this, let's do this. I have these big old, grandiose goals. I sat back and asked myself why? For what? What's the reason for it? What's the point of building a life that looks so nice on the outside but it doesn't feel good to live? Good God, almighty, we're going to go ahead and get social media right now. I know a lot of us.

Speaker 1:

Sometimes, our days, you feel the energetic shift because you look at your real life and compare it to somebody else's fake life on Instagram. Let me go ahead and say that one more time. Your energy will shift from moment to moment, from day to day, because you will compare your real life that you are living and experiencing right now To somebody else's fake life that you watched on Instagram or TikTok. It didn't matter what it looked like on the outside, it only mattered what it looked like on the inside. It wasn't about how it looked, it was about how it felt. When you realize that this life, this experience is. All we're doing is chasing these feelings.

Speaker 1:

Here's the paradox. It's not that you stop moving forward. It's not that I don't have goals. I'm just not attached to them anymore. For my level of self-worth, I don't need the achievement for me to be enough. If nobody ever calls me again, nobody wants to hear anything, nobody wants to talk to me ever again, that's okay. So now you start to see that you've rooted yourself in something just a little bit deeper. So you still have dreams. You'll still have goals, but now they come from a place of truth instead of fear. You're no longer seeking validation. You are creating a life that you want to live, that you want to experience. And here's the crazy part you, ready, want to experience. And here's the crazy part you, ready. When you start to redefine success in your life. You'll start to see how much of your life you actually created out of fear, and you'll start to see that a lot of your ambition, a lot of your drive, a lot of your motivation was created from the foundation of fear, and that's not sustainable, that's not healthy. You're actually creating out of scarcity, and scarcity is not your divine nature. So this is actually isn't you creating it.

Speaker 1:

So I know what some people are saying. What am I just supposed to just like Not work hard or not? No, how about this? How about this? How about, instead of you working hard, you just get aligned, get yourself aligned? I started to feel guilty. That's really. I have a true story. I'm going to be honest with you.

Speaker 1:

I started to feel guilty Because I worked Four or five hours a day and I spent three, three hours working on myself. I started to feel guilty. I was supposed to be doing this. So here's what I did. I got myself a conundrum. I started to build a business based on what I thought the world was telling me what I was supposed to do.

Speaker 1:

Go hire employees, go do this. Look, now I'm at a point where I ain't going to hire nobody to do nothing. I don't need to For what? The drive has changed, the ambition has changed. Why don't I, why don't I just keep working on myself and keep evolving? And then here's the beauty of it Everything has to expand at the same rate. Everything has to expand as you expand, everything around you has to expand. So now, like I said before, it's not that your ambition has gone away. It's just not being fueled by fear, and you're now being fueled by something that's way, way, way more sustainable. We call this intention, we call this alignment. So now you don't even feel the scarcity of the pressure to chase after everything. I need to chase. Oh, I need to do this, I got to do this. Now you don't feel the pressure of constantly trying to prove to everybody that you were good enough, that you can do this job, that I'm adequate. No, I'm good at it, I'll prove it, I'll show everybody. Now you can start to choose and do things that are aligned with who you are, the core of you, the things that really matter to you.

Speaker 1:

I know we've been conditioned and programmed. You've got to have a work ethic. You've got to have a work ethic. You've got to have a work ethic. You've got to have a work ethic. I'm teaching my kids. Right now they're 12 and 10. I'm teaching them work ethic, but you know what else I'm teaching them, too? Teaching them, too, a deep sense of rest ethic as well.

Speaker 1:

You got to be able to learn how to rest, and this is something that's foreign to me. I'm going to be honest with you. This is something I never learned how to rest. I watched my parents, I watched being an athlete. We didn't learn how to rest. If you rest and you're being lazy, if you rest and there could have been something else you could have been doing, no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 1:

Rest is on the opposite end of working and there has to be balance. This universe operates through balance. You know what ends up happening. I see it so often. It has happened to me. You get burned out, and the reason why you get burned out is you're too far on one end. I'm too far on the end of work and I don't find that balance. Life is going to make you have to rest. How many times has this happened? You overwork yourself and now you're sick, you don't feel good, you got to take a day off. This is the universe saying hey, we need balance.

Speaker 1:

And here's my last kind of warning to you. It's going to feel foreign. It's going to feel weird. Your mind is going to say, yeah, but we got to feel foreign. It's going to feel weird. Your mind is going to say, yeah, but we got to do something. People around you are going to say, well, you don't do anything Because our world, we've been programmed. We measure our success by how much we sacrifice. That's how we measure success, which is wild wild. No other creature does this. So the more that you sacrifice, the more successful you are. Look, stay with me here. I'm trying to have a paradigm shift here. Stop thinking that if I sacrifice, that's going to make me successful. There will be things that I have to quote, unquote, exchange or give up, because that doesn't resonate at the same frequency that I'm at. But enough with this BS that we have been programmed with to make us think that our success is going to be measured by how much we sacrifice.

Speaker 1:

I sat here and asked myself this question If I'm really creating my experience in this reality, why can't I have it all? Why not? How come I can't have it all? How come I can't put my kids on the bus? How come I can't be at home when they get home? How come I can't provide enough value so that the income will come in that I'd be able to take care of all of my bills? How come I can't do that? Why not? Who came up with these rules? I'm sorry y'all, I'm getting little.

Speaker 1:

I'm sorry if you feel like I at you, but where do we believe this? Where do we come up with this? To believe that we cannot create our lives exactly the way we want and we have to sacrifice something. We have to sacrifice our happiness, we have to sacrifice our peace, we have to sacrifice us believing in ourselves. How many times we do this? Nope, don't you believe in yourself too much. You're going to be arrogant. That's cockiness, what the? So now I'm sacrificing my self-worth. I'm sacrificing how much I believe in myself. So that way, y'all don't think I'm arrogant. So y'all don't think that I'm cocky. The reason why they think that you're arrogant and cocky is because they can't imagine themselves believing in themselves that much.

Speaker 1:

I might as well go ahead and get off this right now. Stop sacrificing and stop thinking that you can't have it all. You can have it all. As long as you figure out what all looked like in your life. You don't even realize that you plan by a bunch of rules that some and I don't say this from the ego, I just have to use this word that some bozo came up with, and now we believe it.

Speaker 1:

Somebody projected onto us this whole belief system that we're supposed to sacrifice our way, and I got to like no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, it's not that you're sacrificing. You're giving up parts of yourself that are no longer needed for this new frequency that you are at. So, yes, am I quote unquote sacrificing today more than I did yesterday? Yes, but really it's not that I'm sacrificing. I am letting go of things that no longer serve me because I'm at a new frequency, a new level of information, a new level of awareness.

Speaker 1:

So the next part of this, it's not that you won't be competitive, it's not that you won't be because people ask me well, so I'm just going to lose my drive now? No, you ain't going to lose your drive. You're going to stop letting your drive drive you. You're going to stop letting your drive drive you and you're going to become the driver. And when you become the driver, you can start to steer the car instead of the car steering you. You know how it is when you get in a car and you really don't have control over the wheel. That car is going to go wherever it wants. That's what happens with a lot of us, because our motivation and our drive is unconsciously coming from a wound. But what would happen? What would happen if I start to choose what drives me? And now, what drives me is not coming from something on the outside. It's coming from this level of self-worth that I don't need that thing anymore to accomplish it. So that's why I'm going to go do it.

Speaker 1:

This is the paradox. This is the paradox. This is the paradox. Hear me when I say this. This is the paradox. This is the paradox. Hear me when I say this this is the paradox. When you let go of the attachment to that thing that you were striving for and thinking it's going to be the thing that makes you enough. When you let go of that, you heal that You're going to let go of the attachment.

Speaker 1:

And here's the thing about it Once I let go, that's when I got it already. So I don't need to be on Oprah's set, no more. That's why I know I'm going to sit down with Oprah and have a conversation. This is why I know all of these things are going to happen, because I don't need it anymore. And then you sit back and you kick back your feet and then guess what ends up happening.

Speaker 1:

You start to see all these signs and synchronicities. All these signs and synchronicities that will show themselves to you on your journey and you will start to see I am so divinely orchestrated, so divinely protected. All I had to do was sit back in this tube and just take myself down the river of life, because I'm going to get to where I'm going, because now I don't need to get to where I wanted to go, I don't need to accomplish this. I don't have to be that I don't have, and the ego is terrified of this. And this, my friends, is why I'm't have to be that I don't have, and the ego is terrified of this. And this, my friends, is why I'm telling you to let go. When you let go and you start to align more, you'll see that you never had to grind, you'll see that you never really had to sacrifice. That was just a lie that we got told. I watched it, I saw it.

Speaker 1:

How many times do we see the baby boomers? They work for 40 something years, 50 something years. They were told grind, just grind, just grind, save up in your 401k. Now here they are, they retire, they're done. And they got five years and you hear it old John died of a heart attack. Yeah, he had a lot of money, he had a lot of money in his account retirement but he didn't get to experience this fullness of life the way he could have. And no, everything happens for a reason. We're not going to sit here and second guess, but just think in your life.

Speaker 1:

If you sat down with yourself and you ask yourself what's driving me right now, am I doing this out of fear? Do I feel like I need to accomplish this? You may have quote, unquote less this. You may have quote, unquote less but you'll actually have more. And this, my friends, is what it meant to be rich. This is what it meant to be wealthy. Being rich had nothing to do with what I had, what I accumulated. You can have a million dollars in the bank and be poor, as the kids would say. You can be poor AF. You can have nothing in the bank and be rich AF.

Speaker 1:

So you move into the richness of life when you realize that I didn't need to do something. I didn't need to accomplish something in order for me to be enough. That's where your wealth is, because that's what we call self-worth, and worth is directly correlated to value. So if I have high self-worth, I have high value, and there is no number that you could put on that value. There's no number you could put on your self-worth. Y'all ain't trying to hear nothing.

Speaker 1:

I'm saying right now and now you start to move into this energy of being this divinely supreme, abundant, wealthy, rich being that you actually are. And this, my friends, is why they referred to it as the richness of life. You are already rich. You are already rich. You are rich. Say this in the core of your soul I am rich. I don't need to accomplish something to be enough. I am enough. And because I'm enough, I know I can do anything without someone else's permission. I know I can. And here's the beauty of it If it never happens, it won't matter, because you're already being it. You've already experienced on the inside. But because you're experiencing on the inside, it has to show itself, and now it's a win-win.

Speaker 1:

So it's not that your healing journey has made you less ambitious, it's not that you don't have drive. It's those things that you thought lit you up on the outside no longer light you up, and now your light is emanating from the inside. You've become the source. You are the source, and that's why we call money, we refer to it as being a resource. It was supposed to help you to realize that you were the source again. It wasn't supposed to be the source of you being enough. It was to help you again realize that you were the source of being enough. You were the source. So keep building, keep creating, but don't do it to be worthy. But don't do it to be worthy, don't do it to be enough. Don't go build that business and make a million dollars and get this many followers, so that way you'll be enough. And this is when you start to realize that you become the embodiment of enoughness and you'll realize that you're doing it because you're already it.

Speaker 1:

So I know for me, along this journey, I asked myself why do I feel like I don't have any drive anymore? It's not that you don't have any drive. There's an alchemical change that's taking place. Your fuel lines are being changed out. Instead of your fuel lines being connected to things on the outside of this world, you've just tapped into the line that's coming directly from the divine. And now that source of fuel, that source of motivation, is no longer needed on the outside. And now that line from the divine, that fuel source, that energy source, instead of it being motivation, it becomes inspiration. Go ahead and plug that line in. Go ahead and tap into it. Realize that I don't need to accomplish anything for me to be enough.

Speaker 1:

And the people around you are going to say what is wrong with you? What is wrong with you? I noticed after my most recent ayahuasca ceremony, things changed drastically for me. I had this goal, this vision of growing, like having a $100 million company. Man. I got back from that ceremony I said I ain't doing none of that. I ain't growing. No, $100 million company. And for what? For what? For what? And I got to the root of it in my ceremony. I got to the root of it in my healing.

Speaker 1:

$100 million was what you had come up with to make you feel like you're not $100 million. Who cares, I'm going to do $100 million anyway. What are you going to do? What are you going to do with it? For what? What are you going to do? You get this.

Speaker 1:

How many times you get something, you do something. You're like, man, that was cool, I don't want to do it again. That's all that's going to happen. How about you just live life from a state of fulfillment, of peace, of joy. Now you won't need anything. And this, my friends, is when you step into being rich. And it's the paradox of life when I don't need it, that's when I will have it. And now it would just flow abundantly. It would just come to you, wow, wow. This is crazy. I can't believe this situation popped up, can't believe that happened.

Speaker 1:

And here's what's going to end up happening. You're going to start to allow yourself to be more compassionate, more patient with yourself. You can be so much more caring and patient with yourself, because now it's not now. You're not in a hurry in the hustle and bustle of the outside world. So there's nothing wrong with you. There's nothing wrong with you if you feel like my ambition to do all of these things has gone down now. There's nothing wrong. This is normal. This is all part of your healing journey. This is how you know the change is taking place. You're reclaiming your power now. You're reclaiming your ambition. You're reclaiming your self-worth. It's no longer contingent on what you did or what you achieved or what you proved or what you strive for. It's gone. You don't have to do that anymore.

Speaker 1:

So you start to realize that through this healing journey, you're not actually running the same race that everybody else is. And because you're not running the same race that everybody else is, and because you're not running the same race that everybody else is, you start to see that your finish lines are not the same as what the world has told you. You had all these finish lines that you had to get to this certain point so you would feel enough and there was a sense of urgency and I had to get it all together. I had to figure this out. I got to have the house with the white picket fence and I got to make sure I have a certain amount of my kids' college funds. I have to make sure I have a certain amount of retirement. I got to make sure my body looks a certain way. I got to have a certain amount, all these bogus finish lines that the world had made you think you had to have.

Speaker 1:

When you start to heal the finish lines, you to improve or, sorry, the need for you to prove or outrun your own insecurities that you've been running away from. It goes away, and now you have nothing to prove, and it doesn't mean that you're going to stop evolving. You're going to stop moving. I told you you're going to constantly keep moving down the river of life. That's going to happen. It's just you started to become so much more rooted in who you are instead of what you do. So this was my encouragement for all of us here today To keep going.

Speaker 1:

I know it feels foreign, like I don't have as much drive. I want to do this, this and this. Yes, I know. Why do you think all these Buddhist monks sit on the side of their Himalayan mountains? Or they sit in their monastery and they just sit there. The drive isn't there. It's not that it's not there. The ambition is not there, it's just it's no longer rooted in worldly things. This, my friends, is when you become free, and when you are free, you will be at peace. So you know, I encourage you to keep healing, keep growing, and this is what the world is headed towards.

Speaker 1:

My next goal, my next I'm going to go ahead and put it out there in the universe my next goal is to get into places of influence, of power. Power. Somebody said to me the other day they said man, you've done all this with no. I said no, I ain't got nobody behind me, I'm just using the energy from the source. I mean, it's not that I don't have other people's energy the community followers but I'm just doing this because I'm just sharing where I am on my journey.

Speaker 1:

If I can get to a position whether it's in the corporate world, whether it's I don't know what it looks like, I have no idea, but I know, if I get to a certain point, how much louder my voice will be to be able to help people. And sometimes people need help and they don't even know that they need help, just like me. I didn't even know that there was anything that was headed in the wrong direction, because ignorance is bliss. So my point of this is because ignorance is bliss. So my point of this is this is where the world is headed. This is where the world is headed. We're starting to realize that things matter more on what's going on the inside than what's going on the outside. But the outside has to crumble first. We can see what's happening in our world right now. I'm sitting back, watching back with popcorn, with a toothpick in my mouth. I'm sitting here watching, saying, oh my goodness, things are crumbling, so the new can come in. The new is on its way and this is a whole nother podcast. But hear me when I say this the new is on its way, but the old has got to crumble, and this is what we're watching right now. You're watching the demolition that's happening on a macro level, but it's also happening on a micro level.

Speaker 1:

I just want to tell you thank you for walking your journey, continuing to show up, continuing to figure out who you are. I know every day it's not easy. I know sometimes you're like, oh, I don't want to do this anymore, I don't have the drive. I hope this podcast helped you. I hope this podcast helped you to see that it's not that you're losing your ambition. You're just reshifting of what's driving you. That's all that's taking place. Your fuel source is becoming infinite, it's no longer finite. So keep going and, as always, I wish you nothing but the best and the pathway to your results.
