The Pathway To Your Results
Nothing Was For Nothing
Imagine turning life's chaos into a masterful journey of growth—this episode promises to unlock that potential. We explore poignant lessons hidden in every experience, from triumphs to heartbreaks, and how every moment is a building block on our hero's journey. I recount my spiritual awakening in 2019, a time that seemed turbulent yet became a cornerstone in embracing the mindset that 'nothing is wasted.' Like kitchen utensils, not every experience is needed daily, but each serves its purpose when the time is right, preparing us for future challenges and triumphs.
Once you see what you actually are, that you're an infinite, limitless being, you'll see that nothing exists outside of you. I'm your host, derek Grant, and this is the Pathway to your Results Podcast. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Pathway to your Results podcast. It is your boy, dg. This is presented by DG Mindset. Here we are, here we are.
Speaker 1:This episode is probably going to be a little bit more preaching than it is teaching, but I know that you enjoy that as well. Every once in a while, I'll listen to my podcast when I'm working out, if I'm in the gym, like if I'm on the road or in a hotel or something. It always gets me going. Actually, the most of the times when I listen to my podcast is when I'm cutting the grass or doing something outside, because I need some energy to get me going. But this is one of those episodes right now that I don't know what you got going. I don't know what life looks like. It doesn't matter, because this is going to put the battery in your back. As we used to say, get you charged up.
Speaker 1:One thing I have to tell you about life here, and this is what my mom used to tell me. Margo Margo, I know you used to tell me this, you used to say this a lot and you say a little bit more now. When we have our conversations, me and my mom don't talk often probably once every couple of weeks, two weeks. No, not once every couple of weeks, I say once every six to eight days. But when we do, they're deep conversations, it's like a concentrate. We don't need a big glass full, we can just have a little shot of it because it's so concentrated. But we always talk about how nothing is wasted. Always talk about how nothing is wasted. Nothing is wasted. Everything in life is a part of life and it matters on some scale. Okay, hold on now. Y'all ain't trying to hear nothing I'm saying right now. I said nothing is wasted. Everything is absolutely needed. Everything is needed.
Speaker 1:Think about how many Cooking utensils you have in your kitchen right now. Think about how many kitchen utensils you have. Do you use those every day? No, you don't. You don't use them every day. Sometimes you use some of them once a year.
Speaker 1:I ask my wife all the time. I say what do we got that big old thing up there for? She's like well, we use that for Christmas. I say, well, christmas ain't coming around, but once a year. But her point of it is is that, too, is needed. But her point of it is is that, too, is needed. Just because we don't need it right now doesn't mean that it's not needed.
Speaker 1:Hear me when I say this no thing in your life has ever been wasted. Not the heartbreak, not the heartache, not the ups, not the hiccups, not the downs. Everything was needed for this journey that you are on right now the hero's journey, because everything that came to you in your life, packaged information, with inside of it, every situation, every relationship, every circumstance, every failure everything came encoded with information. And here's what we should have been doing. We should have been contemplating and self-reflecting of what was needed from this situation so I could take the information, put it in my little learning bag, my satchel, and continue on my journey. So when I got to a point that this information that I had allocated and got from that situation I was going to be able to use at this point in life so here's why I'm saying that you all have heard the story many times of when I had my sacred wound. It would start to spur a spiritual awakening back in 2019, when I had lost everything, everything.
Speaker 1:Before I know it, I'm a confidential informant for the FBI. My whole reality fracture. I was having a spiritual awakening. I didn't even know what a spiritual awakening was. My family thought I was crazy. I went and got a bunch of tattoos. I changed the way I delivered my messages. Now, all of a sudden, it's like who is this guy? Where is this guy? Where is this guy? I changed my name from Derek to DG and all of this stuff was happening. I'm telling you now, six years later. I can tell you right now exactly why these things happened and what the point of them were. I can tell you exactly each thing from when I got involved for that relationship, when that situation didn't happen. I can look at it and connect the motherfucking dots like that, because now I can see what the information was intended for.
Speaker 1:And sometimes the information that's intended for you in your life isn't for right now. Just like when I told you my wife Carly, when she has that thing sitting up in there and we're not using it. That's not for right now at Easter, that's not right now for the 4th of July, that's not right now in August, that is for Christmas. It's not that it's not needed. It's just not needed right now. Oh my gosh, y'all ain't trying to hear what I'm saying right now.
Speaker 1:The situation that you went through, it's not that it wasn't needed, it's just you don't have enough context right now for you to be able to use that information, and so you think it's a waste, so you think that the trauma that you endured was negative and it was for nothing. You think what you went through was the worst thing. That's because it's not time yet there's something that we needed. There's information in that situation that was needed, for when we get to that critical point and here's where the critical point is is when you reach the point of information. Good God, almighty, you reached a point of information where only that information that you had gathered years or months or days earlier could be used to get you to the next frequency. Think of it like this Everything carries a frequency, all information carries a frequency, and some information can only get you to a certain point, but you have lessons and situations that you've gone through in the past, that you are at the age of 25. You're at the age of 16. Whatever it is, you're at the age of 45.
Speaker 1:And now you're wondering why in the world did I endure what I went through? Why did this happen? Why me? Why? And you start to realize the muscle that you had to be able to get through that situation of perseverance, of resilience, of consistency was the same muscle that you were going to use right now for when your business was starting to fail or your marriage was going down the drain or your kids weren't where they needed to be in life. You're going to use the same muscle and then here's what's going to happen You're going to pick yourself up by the bootstraps and get yourself up out of the ditch and then you're going to look back and you're going to see oh, my goodness, I see why I went through what I did. I see why I had the childhood that I did. I see what the whole point of it was. See, the answer always comes before the question. But a lot going to give context to the answer. It's not that the answer did not exist, it's not that the solution wasn't there. You just haven't asked the questions to give context to the answer that had been sitting there.
Speaker 1:So for you, along this journey, your life, please know that no thing was wasted. Nothing was wasted. I had to make a major life decision. Major life decision. It involved relocating, it involved moving, and I'm trying to figure out what to do. What decision do I make? I have to offer my family this great opportunity, blah, blah, blah. And then I could look back at the situation that happened in Florida. And then I could look back at the situation that happened in Florida, because that was a relocation, that was a move, and now I see why we had to do that when we did it, so I could get to this point to be able to make a more rounded, more aware decision. So, really, florida was just preparing me for the next thing. You see how this works. So now, if nothing's wasted, everything is always preparing you for the next thing, but you can't see the next thing in this illusory third dimension. You can't see it. So you don't know why this happened. Right now. I can tell you right now when I look back on it. Good God, almighty, y'all ain't trying to hear nothing. I'm saying Stay with me.
Speaker 1:In 2013, I had went to LA Fitness. I just went in there to go hoop. I was still playing for the Globetrotters. I was home for a little bit. I was gone all summer. I was home literally for like five days I went up to the gym to go play basketball, go play pickup Anybody who knows anything about LA Fitness? Mondays at 5 pm, that's when the runs are the best. So I went up there on Monday at 5 pm, right where I lived at. I go up there and I don't know anybody, nobody knows me. I mean I played for the Globetrotters, so I was never really home.
Speaker 1:This guy walks up to me randomly and says hey, you play for the Globetrotters. I go, yeah, he goes, would you be interested in training my kids? I said okay. So yeah, I said yeah. Now, mind you, up until that point I'd never quote unquote trained anybody in basketball. I mean, I played basketball, but I never taught anybody how to play basketball. So now here this guy is I know what I meant. He's at the park with his two kids, right, two brothers. I'm training them. Once a week he paid me 35 bucks. 35 bucks for the hour. Right, hot as get out. Oh, I mean it was like 90 degrees, right, turning black as a piece of coal. But here I am out here training these brothers. And then the dad went and told his friend who had another kid. So he tells his friend. His friend brings his kid and I'm training three kids. Now, let's fast forward a year. Now. That was in July of 2013. Now, let's fast forward a year. Now. That was in July of 2013. Now let's go to May of 2014.
Speaker 1:I get a call on Thursday, july sorry, may 14th from the Harlem Globe Trials and they say thank you for your services, but we're moving in another direction. Eight years gone, just like that. I'm out of there, don't have a job, unemployed, just bought a brand new house, got to figure out life. Now, dang, I get a knock on the door about an hour later. It was that guy who I had met the year before, the friend of the guy who asked me to train his kids. He said hey, I was just driving by. I saw your car out front because I figured you lived here and here's a book for you. Now, that book that he gave me was I may have told you all this story, but the book was written by a trainer who trained a bunch of NBA players. It was a blueprint. It was the blueprint of how to start a training business.
Speaker 1:I had no training business. I had no plans of starting a training business. I wasn't going to do all that. I didn't know what I was going to do, but I didn't know. I was like I'm not going to do that because I didn't believe that it was possible, that I could make a living to provide me enough courage, enough belief to know that this was possible. See, sometimes this is what happens. We go on a hunt to look for someone else and see what they've done, just enough to give us the belief that we could do it. You know how it is when you see somebody doing something and you look at them, you say, man, if he do it, I can do it. Maybe that's all that you need and in this case, this was all that I needed. So, before I knew it, I just started this entrepreneur journey, started growing and doing this and building this business. Now, a year later, two years later, after I trained those boys at the park, now here I am. I got 350 kids and business is booming. That's one of the best trained, known as one of the best trainers in all of the Midwest NBA players, wnba players, college players, mcdonald's All-Americans, blah, blah, blah. Why am I telling you this? Because I know that nothing was wasted from the day that I went to LA Fitness. To the moment that I said yes when this guy asked me to train his kid. To the moment that, when I put everything into his kid so that, enough, he would go tell his friend to bring his kid. To the moment when that friend brought me a book. Do you see how this happens? This happens repeatedly. We can look back and connect the dots, but you can't see it on the front end. So my point of this is you need to get in your mind and understand, but you can't see it on the front end. So my point of this is well, you need to get in your mind and understand. It's always going to work itself out and nothing is going to be wasted along my journey. It's going to get me where I need to go. I just need to focus on where I am in remembrance of where I want to go. I focus on now and I remember where I want to be tomorrow. I remember where I want to be tomorrow and I act upon it right now, and I know that everything that comes, regardless of what it looks like, how it feels, it could be negative, it could be positive. All of that was going to be needed too along this journey. So I want you to think about in your life. Think about in your life how many times you thought something was negative, how many times you thought you were down and out, how many times you thought that there's no way anything positive could come from this. And then you look at yourself a couple years later, a couple months later, and you see that you made it through. Months later. And you see that you made it through. Not only did you make it through, you came out more refined, more defined, more authentic, more vulnerable, more self-aware, more self-compassionate, more self-accepting, more self-validating. You came out on the other side better. So tell me, how in the world could that situation, those circumstances, that relationship, how in the world could it have been wasted? It could not. So now, if we know that nothing is wasted, every ingredient matters towards your masterpiece of a meal that you were cooking called your life. If every ingredient mattered, why in the world would we be trying to skip out on any ingredients? Why in the world would you be trying to take the easy way out and substituting an ingredient for another one? You know good and well, if you take the easy way, you take the easy way out in substituting an ingredient for another one. You know good and well, if you take the easy way, you take the easy road, you're not going to be using the ingredients that was going to be needed to help you to get to the masterpiece of a meal, of a cuisine that you were capable of making. So why do I say this? When you know that nothing is wasted, my friends, you will see that everything was always for you. And when you know that everything is for you, you can start to trust Good, god, almighty. And when you trust, you can start to be patient life. And when you trust, you can start to be patient. And when you're patient, you can start to move at the speed that works for you. And you're not going to be moving at society's speed. You're not going to be moving at your parents' speed. You're not going to be doing things trying to hurry up and do it out of desperation, so you can figure out. No, I know that I'm always going to be good. I know that I'm always going to be doing things trying to hurry up and do it out of desperation, so you can figure out. No, I know that I'm always going to be good. I know that I'm always going to be taken care of. I know that I'm always going to be supported. I know that things are always working out for me, even when it doesn't look like it is. I know that eventually the tables are going to turn and it's going to show at some point why the situation happened. And it will be my job, my job, my responsibility. It will fall on my shoulders to extract the information through me asking the question what is this trying to teach me right now? What would I do differently if I could go back? When I start doing that, good God almighty, I will start to see that life has always been in my favor. I am highly favored and I'm highly blessed. Everyone listening to this, everyone coming across this, everyone on this earth is highly favored. And just because you don't see it, it doesn't mean that it isn't. Just because you don't see it, it doesn't mean that it isn't. I don't see any of these radio waves that are floating in this air, but if I turn on a radio and I turn it on I better believe I'm going to hear Taylor Swift. I'm going to hear whoever's playing, I'm going to hear it. But just because I don't see it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. The same goes for you. So this is moving out of the victim mindset to an abundant mindset is realizing that everything is always going to work itself out, because nothing was wasted. Everything was for me, everything. It's like the universe was just trying to give you lessons. It was trying to give you lessons and give you information and give you enough energy to expand your self-awareness. So the universe is literally just giving you book after book, after book after book, so you can contribute to your book, to your book. So you didn't know you were writing a book. Everybody always talking about you need to write a book. You write a book. You write a book. You write a book. Y'all don't stop telling me to write a book. You write a book. Why I got to write a book? You write a book Because your story matters too. Your story matters too. My story don't matter anything, anybody anything, any more than anybody else. You write a book. You're writing a book right now. It's called your Life, an autobiography. It's your life. Write that book, start that podcast, start that business. Do you see? So we start to realize that nothing is wasted. Everything's working itself out for me. I can't lose. I can't lose, I can't lose, I can't lose. Hear me when I say this I can't lose. If I can't lose, that means I'm victorious. I'm always victorious. I've never lost in life. I can't lose in life, and if I thought that I'm lost or I think that I'm losing, it's because I've lost sight, I've lost awareness, I've fallen asleep. Just because you can't see the victory, it did not mean that you were the victim. Can't see the victory. It did not mean that you were the victim Just because you could not see the victory and see how everything was working out for you. It did not mean that you were the victim. I don't think you're trying to hear what I am telling you right now. What if you walked in this energy? What if you walked? Ask yourself right now I'm going to take some time. Go ahead. If you walked in this energy, what if you walked? Ask yourself right now I'm going to take some time. Go ahead. Ask yourself what would I do differently if I knew I couldn't lose? What would I do if I knew I couldn't fail? What would I do if I knew nothing was wasted and everything was helping me? Think about what you would do. I ask people this all the time when I work with them. What would you do if you didn't have any fear? They'd be like, oh man, I do this. I say, well, why don't we just go ahead and get rid of the illusion of fear then? Why don't we work on that? Hmm, you see, this was all that was stopping us. It was our own mind, it was our own constructs that we had created. I know for me personally, and realizing that life is Life, has always been working. Always, because one of the fabrics, one of the attributes, one of the characteristics of life is evolution, growth. Life begets life. Life is always constantly looking to create more life, and I realized that everything that came to me in my life was life. Life is always constantly looking to create more life, and I realized that everything that came to me in my life was life. Good God, almighty, everything that happens to me is life. All parts of me are life. The good and the bad, that's life too. So if everything, if the characteristics of life are to grow, to evolve, then really these things that are a part of my life, they are a part of life. Those negative things, those two things, those things too, are actually helping life to grow, and this is why I tell you you can't lose. This is why I tell you you can't lose. This is why I tell you nothing is wasted. I encourage you to go to Amazoncom right now if you made it this far in the podcast and go purchase the Seven Laws of Healing the Inner Child so you can heal the past, so you can create the future. This is why I wrote this book to help you. You specifically. I always tell people look, there's a book that I read a couple years ago. I bought six copies of it and I gave it away. I'm not telling you you have to buy six copies, but if there's somebody who you think this will resonate with you, go buy them another one, please. I'm asking you all, so gently and kindly, to provide value by leaving a review. When you leave a review, that really helps. It really does. I actually go look at the reviews. I go back and read them. I'm like, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, I remember them. Yeah, they're on Instagram. I go back and read them. But, most importantly, please know that nothing in your life is wasted and that everything that came to you was divinely orchestrated so that you would be able to grow and evolve and increase your level of self-awareness, self-worth, self-acceptance and self-validation, so that you would not need it from anyone or anything on the outside. That was what the whole part of it was and know that you can't lose. So go play the game, go write the book, produce that movie and do it the way that you wanted, because this was your life, and do with it as you may. As always, I wish you nothing but the best on the pathway to your results. You.
